Eva Sonnino
Eva Sonnino designed for Bernardo between the years of 1951-1972. Credited with creating one of the most iconic of Bernardo styles, the Miami, it continues to be a best selling sandal decades after it was first designed by Eva Sonnino. Eva lived with her family in New York's Gramercy Park in the historic 44 Gramercy Park building designed by the architecture firm Schwartz and Gross. It would have been a fashionable place to live at the time with residents having access to the private Gramercy Park.
During her time at Bernardo, Eva designed many of the styles that were featured in fashion magazines of the time including frequent sightings in Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. The sandal called the Miami was a favorite among the Lilly Pulitzer crowd and Jackie O is reported to have owned 16 pair in different colors. In 1972, Eva and her husband moved to Rome Italy and while she continued to consult for Bernardo she was no longer part of the primary design team.
